The 'Clock Project'

31-JAN-2008:

Last week, daddy and I agreed that we would work on a 'project' together with Dominic to make him a clock out of cornflake boxes and cardboards. Daddy thought that it was a good idea. We would get to spend time together. We would get to stay home and spend less money. :-)

When the weekend came, daddy said he needed to work. Mummy started the project with Dominic on Saturday and finished it on Sunday. It turned out that mummy had to do all the work while Dominic messed around with the glue, scissors and paint. At least he helped to paint the "wrapper" and applied the glue.

Hopefully the next project will turn out better.

Trains!

23-JAN-2008:

Dominic's favourite toys are:

(1) His Lego train set; and

(2) His Fisher Price train.

These are the only toys that he plays regularly. We think he likes trains because we take so many trains - underground trains, double decker trains, trains where you stand, trains where you sit, trains where you can sleep, trains where you can dine ...

Noticing that Dominic loves playing with trains my 4th uncle and his daughter Christine bought him a Thomas & Friends train set. Of course, Dominic was delighted. He played with it as soon as he got back from school and he played with it first thing in the morning.

It's pretty cool with a tunnel, bridge and train station, and a highway where the bus runs.

After about a week, although he still loves to play with Thomas but his number one favourite is still the Lego train. He likes to build really tall funnel (or chimney?) for the Lego train.

When he can't reach the top anymore, he pulls a chair.

A Weekend As The Tour Guide

20-JAN-2008:

My cousin Christine and her dad were here for about a week and a half. Christine's mum is my dad's younger sister and they live in Singapore. On this particular weekend, Saimun volunteered to be their tour guide (although they have already been to some of the popular tourist attractions in London).

We started with a short walk around Covent Garden on Saturday - basically a shopping area / market. Nobody bought anything. Then we headed off for lunch. As usual, we went to daddy's favourite restaurant - Belgo's. His favourite because of a few criteria:

(1) The food is good - the number one reason; and

(2) It is child-friendly - which is equally as important because you can find good food elsewhere too.

The restaurant provided Dominic with crayons and activity booklet to keep him occupied while waiting for food. It wasn't long before Dominic started throwing the crayons onto the floor.

Fortunately, food arrived pretty soon. Dominic had cod fritters with fries. "Gu Jeong" had steak and the rest of us had mussels with fries.

Dominic was quick to attack his food. We purposely "starved" him before the lunch so that he would eat. We had dessert after that and was stuffed.

After lunch, we took a long stroll around London - calling at Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square, Downing Street, Big Ben and London Eye. As usual, Dominic fell asleep on his push chair.

On Sunday, we went for Dim Sum in the morning ... err ... noon at Canary Wharf. That was like one hour from our place. But daddy wanted to show my uncle "London's Financial Hub", so to Canary Wharf we went. The next agenda after Dim Sum was shopping! I bought a red shirt for Dominic from Gap - to be worn on CNY. Grandma said that everyone should wear red on CNY. I've already got myself a blood red blouse last weekend. Meanwhile, Christine and her dad got Gap sweaters for little Stephen back home in Singapore.

After that, we took a trip to Greenwich and stood at 0 degree longitude. On the way back, we saw a lion!

Although it was small and it had only two legs, it was still a lion. A Chinese one. :-)

Goodies From Singapore

18-JAN-2008:

My cousin Christine and her dad arrived in London a couple of days ago and will be staying with us for about one and a half weeks. Christine's mum is my dad's younger sister and they live in Singapore. They're here in London because Christine needs to attend interviews at a few universities for admission into medical school.

Look what my "Gu Jie" (aunt) got me all the way from Singapore. Fantastic goodies, just in time for CNY. Thank you, thank you!

Oh ... and a box of Chinese sausages too!

Isn't it great that she knows just exactly what I want without me telling her? :-)
